Malasadas

Ask anyone who's ever lived in Hawaii about malasadas and they'll get a faraway dreamy look on their faces and their mouths start watering.

Manapua, AKA Char Siu Bao, AKA Steamed Pork Buns

The Manapua Man sold the BEST version of these snacks going from neighborhood to neighborhood, ringing a bell and charging only $0.25 each!

Huli Huli Chicken

As kids, we all sold fundraising tickets for Huli Huli Chicken at least once. So damn yummy!

Kalua Pig

I can get a version of this at one of the Hawaiian food chains, but there's nothing like authentic Kalua Pig. The crowning glory at a luau.

Opihi

Opihi was a high-ticket item served at "real nice" luaus in Hawaii. Eaten raw, it tastes like the ocean at its very best.

"I'm a former Kalihi Girl now Living on The Mainland. Here are some of my favorite foods from Hawaii that embody local food to me."
